COLUMNS: ROWS: Example Interpretation: How to use this chart

Below are reference tables that lists different picture resolutions and their corresponding bitrates at various frame rates (FPS). The purpose of these charts are to help you understand the recommended internet speeds (bitrates) for streaming content at different resolutions and frame rates with Playback for the best and most efficient media handling possible.

Here's a simple breakdown of these tables:

COLUMNS:

  • Picture Resolution: lists different video resolutions
  • Frame Rate/Bitrate Columns: Each column lists a frame rate (30, 29.97, 25, 24, 23.976) in the header and corresponding bitrates below.
    • Target Bitrate (Mbps) refers to the speed of the encoder at the designated frame rate.
    • Upload Speed (Mbps) refers to the internet bandwidth needed to support the encoder speed at the designated frame rate

ROWS:

  • Row 1 (Headers): Shows the names of the frame rate and fps/bitrate columns.
  • Row 2 and onward: Shows bitrates for the various combinations of resolutions and frame rates. Bitrate values are given in Mbps.

Example Interpretation:

  • Example 1: A 1280x720 video at 30 fps needs an upload speed of  at least 4.15 Mbps.
  • Example 2: A 3840x2160 (4K) video at 30 fps needs an upload speed of at least 37.32 Mbps.

How to use this chart

To use this chart to interpret the necessary internet speeds required for streaming or uploading videos at various resolutions and frame rates, you need to follow these steps:

  • Identify the Resolution and Frame Rate: Determine the resolution and frame rate of the video you would like to to stream or upload.
  • Find the Corresponding Upload Bitrate: Look up the corresponding Upload bitrate in the chart for the identified resolution and frame rate.
  • Add Additional Bitrate for Audio Streaming and Video Conferencing: For streaming 16 channels of audio, add an additional 5 Mbps. For streaming with video conferencing, add an additional 2 Mbps.
  • Consider Overhead and Stability: Add a buffer to the calculated bitrate to account for network overhead and ensure stable performance. A typical buffer is around 20-30%.
  • Check Your Upload Speed: Ensure your internet connection's upload speed meets or exceeds the required bitrate plus the overhead.
